Gilroy Parks

Client: City of Gilroy

Working closely with City staff, the landscape consultant, and the surrounding neighborhoods, RJA assisted with the master planning and design of three (3) neighborhood parks in the City of Gilroy. Each park has its own unique design to reflect neighborhood needs and site character. Carriage Hills Park (2.5-acres) reflects the adjacent oak hillsides and creek with a walking path, naturalistic children’s play areas, and turf areas for informal play. Los Arroyos Park (3-acres) focuses on the play needs of younger children, and creates a unique plaza space for neighborhood gatherings. Sunrise Park (8-acres) balances neighborhood active recreational needs with a desire for a passive park character.

Neighborhood involvement in the design process was achieved through a series of neighborhood meetings to assess need, character, and to review the park design at each step. For Sunrise Park, a questionnaire was also mailed to neighborhood residents to assure input from a broad cross-section of residents. With final approvals of each master plan, RJA prepared the site civil construction documents for each park. RJA also performed construction support and survey staking for all three (3) parks which are now complete and open to the public.
