Safe Routes to School Program

Type: , ,

Client: City of Lafayette

The Safe Routes to School Program (SRTS) is a state-funded project designed to increase the number of children who walk or bicycle to school by eliminating barriers and improving safety. These barriers may include the lack of infrastructure such as sidewalks and pedestrian pathways.

RJA worked closely with the City of Lafayette to provide design surveying, civil engineering, construction support and staking services to add pedestrian pathways and accessibility ramps along Stanley Boulevard and Springbrook Road. The existing rural street section provided no off street pedestrian pathways.

The improvements included a new 5’ concrete sidewalk along the north side of Stanley Boulevard and Springbrook Road from Camino Diablo to Barott Road. RJA also designed a new storm drain system, including individual drainage systems for residential yards that were impacted by the proposed street improvements. New street and crosswalk striping was provided along with median improvements to improve traffic calming.
